Scenario:
A small business has 3 standard telephone lines, two lines for voice,
and 1 line is for FAX. The FAX line also has DSL service for their
Internet connection. The FAX line plugs into the FAX machine. The
other 2 phone lines plug into normal 2 line phones, one of which
that has an answering machine.
Typical
costs from the telco, not including taxes or Internet service, which
do not significantly change:
| Description |
Cost |
| 3
business lines @ $50/line |
$150.00/mo
|
| Avg
$20/mo for Long Dist |
$
20.00/mo
|
| Total |
$170.00/mo
|
Using
our hosted PBX solution, the company would keep the FAX line from
the telco to keep their Internet service, and add VoIP lines and 1
DID phone number. They would cancel the 2 voice lines from the telco,
as they would be replaced by the VoIP lines. The total costs are:
| Description |
Cost |
| 1
FAX line from telco |
$ 50.00/mo
|
| 2
VoIP lines @ $30/line |
$ 60.00/mo
|
| 1
DID phone number |
$
4.00/mo
|
| Total |
$114.00/mo
|
This
company also enjoys the new features of an auto attendant, directing
the calls to the appropriate office phone, and individual voicemail
(plus unified messaging!).
For
completeness sake, the VoIP solution will require the Internet router
to have Quality of Service features. The customer may also need
a Analog Telephone Adapter to use their existing phones. A Linksys
router with both these features is about $80, which is a little
more than a 1 month break even point.
