Scenario:
A small business has 16 employees and 10 telephone lines for voice.
The company also requires Internet connectivity. There are so many
ways to implement this, that we will only focus on a typical VoIP
solution, using a T1 for both Internet access and VoIP services.
This
company will use a T1 to connect them to the Internet. Let's say
this is a new installation, and will require all new networking
equipment. We will also supply a new custom IP PBX solution. However,
we will not address the issue of office wiring, which would be the
same regardless if they used VoIP or not.
The
non recurring/install charges include:
| NRC

| T1
Local Loop and Port Install |
$ 400.00

Using
their own PBX provides the company with the greatest flexibility
for their voice services. This service could also support FAX service.
Whatever T1 capacity that is not currently being used for voice
services would be available for other Internet traffic. This makes
for very cost effective and efficient T1 service.
The
monthly recurring costs include:

This
company also enjoys the new features of an auto attendant and/or
a web based operator screen, directing the calls to the appropriate
extension, and individual voicemail (plus unified messaging!). The
company can also have call queues (maybe to distribute calls between
may tech support agents), busy call forwarding, paging, SMS messaging,
ring groups, and much, much, more.
For
completeness sake, the company still has to decide what to use for
phone handsets. They could use conventional phone handsets (these
would require some type of ATA device), SIP phone handsets, or computer
softphones. Each of these has some cost that needs to be added into
the analysis.
