The spam filtering service is performed on a per domain basis. This
is facilitated by a small and easy change in the DNS MX records for
your domain. There are no configuration changes that are required
on your existing e-mail server. If your users like our default settings,
there is nothing special that the users have to do to start using
the system.
We will
setup an administration account for your domain. The administrator
will need to setup an account for any users who want to customize
their settings. This is a very easy process that is done through a
web browser. The administrator can create, remove, and change passwords
for user accounts.
Once
the users have their account names and passwords, the users can use
a web browser to customize their settings. User customizable settings
include:
- Whitelists
: A whitelist is a list of e-mail sender addresses where e-mail
from a member in the list is allowed through the e-mail filters,
regardless of the e-mail's content.
- Blacklists
: A blacklist is a list of e-mail sender addresses where e-mail
from a member in the list is marked as spam, regardless of the e-mail's
content.
- Required
Hits
: After the e-mail has been run through our filters, the e-mail's
score is compared to this value. If the score is greater than or
equal to this value, then the e-mail is tagged as spam.
- Rewrite
Subject Line
: If the e-mail is tagged as spam, users can choose if they want
the subject line of the message to include a spam e-mail tag.
- Report
in Header
: When an e-mail is tagged as spam, the e-mail filtering system
creates a report about why the e-mail was marked as spam. The user
can choose to have this message in the body of the message, or reported
in the headers of the message.
- Short
Report
: When an e-mail is tagged as spam, this option enables a synopsis
of the report describing why this e-mail was identified as spam.
- De-HTML
Spam
: Over zealous marketers often embed code in html formatted e-mail
messages to phone home, informing the marketer that your
e-mail address is good. This option will convert the html message
into normal text, which thwarts this type of information harvesting.
- Delete
Hits
: After the e-mail has been run through our filters, the e-mail's
score is compared to this value. If the score is greater than or
equal to this value, then the email is disguarded.
The
mail users can also, if they choose, set options in their e-mail reading
program (like Netscape Communicator, or Outlook) to take action on
a e-mail message marked as spam. Typical options include automatically
throwing away the message or filing the message in a different folder
to be viewed at a later date.
