NetIn.com's Performance and Bandwidth Information

Q: How fast is NetIn's connection to the Internet?

This has to be the question we are most often asked. As we have mentioned in our page about architecture, NetIn.com has multiple connections to the Internet. Currently, our largest connections to the Internet are two 100,000,000 bits per second (each connection is 100Mbps, or about 2 and a half T3's combined) circuits.

Maybe more important than the maximum bandwidth is the amount of bandwidth that is available. In other words, what is the utilization of the existing bandwidth? Also of principle concern is the percentage of dropped packets. NetIn.com tracks this information and publishes it on the web for all the world to see. We challenge other providers to do the same.

Q: Has someone else verified that the NetIn.com design and performance is good?

Just to get an non-biased opinion, NetIn.com had Keynote Systems, Inc. perform a web server performance analysis. At the risk of bragging, our results are impressive. See the Keynote performance comparison of the business 40 web sites by time" or the Keynote performance comparison of the business 40 web sites by city".

Q: Why is NetIn.com so fast?

Because we don't overload our equipment or connections. Overloaded links or equipment drop data, most of which has to be retransmitted, which makes loading even higher and performance even worse.

Q: Will I really notice a difference with equipment as small as a modem or ISDN connection?

Yes. Almost ALL of our customers that came from other ISPs have taken the time to tell that they can't believe how much faster NetIn.com is than their previous provider. You might notice that we do not hide our customers. I'm sure they get offers to switch to a competitor more often than they care. Our customers stay because we provide them quality service.

Q: Why are other providers so much slower?

In general, most providers have an unrealistic pricing policy, which forces them to overload their equipment in order to make any profit. They have not contracted to give you any specific amount of bandwidth, and cannot afford to give the bandwidth you may think you have purchased. For a more comprehensive explanation, see our article on Why the current ISP pricing model does not work. A very curious side effect of the unrealistic pricing policy is the general perception that Internet is slow. In many cases, it is the ISP that is the bottleneck.

Q: Do we have any "numbers" to backup our claims?

Yes.

  1. we have the statistics that we keep
  2. we have the Keynote reports:
  3. and we have bandwidth traces to:
